On Monday, June 23, 2008 the
St. Mark's Church
Vacation Bible School visited the garden to enjoy the scenery and learn a little
bit about organic gardening in urban settings. As part of their
visit, kids released lady beetles (lady bugs), which are voracious
predators of aphids, one of our worst garden pests. Kids toured the
garden, tasted spearmint and peppermint, smelled lavender, thyme,
oregano, and basil, and even learned some about composting.
To finish off the experience, everyone planted bean
seeds in Styrofoam cups, which they took home to plant in their own
gardens.
